A Conversation with Dan Greshowak, Director of Cochran’s Technology Division
November 2024
As Cochran continues to evolve and innovate, one of the teams leading that charge is the Technology Division, guided by Dan Greshowak, who has spent more than two decades growing with the company. Now a Co-Director of Cochran's rapidly expanding Technology group, Greshowak's journey from apprentice to leadership highlights the company's commitment to professional growth and its dedication to remaining at the forefront of technological advancements.
Dan began his career at Cochran in 2001 as an apprentice, receiving his first hard hat from John Bryant and working on early projects like the IDX Tower and the King County Courthouse. From there, his career blossomed with roles as a foreman, estimator, and project manager, tackling high-profile jobs such as the Gates Foundation and iconic Seattle hotels like the Four Seasons and Hotel 1000. But it wasn’t just these projects that shaped him; it was the people and opportunities around him. Under the mentorship of Ken Rhodes and alongside peers like Seth, Greshowak learned the nuances of project management and construction leadership that prepared him for the future.
Now, as Director of the Technology Division, Greshowak finds himself in a new chapter, overseeing one of the company’s most critical sectors. “It’s still sinking in,” Dan says, reflecting on his transition to leadership. He and his co-director Ryan Rabe were immediately thrust into managing a labor strike—the first ever in Seattle’s history for Cochran—while reorganizing their division. Yet, despite the challenges, Greshowak remains focused on navigating the team toward the future, especially as technology plays an increasingly pivotal role in how Cochran serves its clients.
Dan is quick to note that this shift has transformed his role as well. “Pre-construction has gotten a lot more involved,” he shares, pointing to increased collaboration with architects and end-users to help bring visions to life. Whether it’s working on state-of-the-art cafes at Microsoft or ensuring that security and fire alarm systems blend seamlessly with design elements, Greshowak’s role has become far more consultative, a true reflection of how Cochran has grown into a multifaceted technology and electrical contractor.
Technology has also impacted how Greshowak and his team manage their work. With tools like Autodesk, mobile laptops, and communication platforms like Teams, Cochran has been able to streamline its processes significantly. “You don’t have a desktop anymore. You have a computer in your hand at all times, and you’re able to respond instantly,” he says. This evolution is emblematic of the company’s adaptability and desire to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring that its internal systems match the demands of a tech-driven future.
Looking ahead, Greshowak has big aspirations for both himself and the company. “I want to be able to support our main accounts—Microsoft, Amazon, medical companies—nationally,” he says, envisioning a future where Cochran is acting as a service provider on a broader scale. He believes that the key to this growth lies in evolving Cochran’s software platforms to meet customer needs better, making interactions seamless and efficient. “We need to make it easy for them,” he emphasizes, underlining the importance of putting the customer first in Cochran’s strategic growth.

For those just starting their careers at Cochran or considering a future in the trades, Greshowak offers sage advice from his 23 years of experience. He encourages newcomers to explore Cochran’s wide range of opportunities beyond just fieldwork. Whether it’s in security, AV, or management, there are paths for growth across the company. “For me, it was helpful to bounce around during my apprenticeship... but just to have those opportunities for everyone else—it’s amazing what Cochran has. You’re not just pigeonholed into one position,” he shares.
Dan Greshowak’s story is one of growth, innovation, and leadership. As he helps steer Cochran’s Technology Division into the future, his journey from apprentice to director is a testament to the opportunities available within the company and a reflection of the company’s commitment to fostering talent and embracing the future.
Let's build something big.
