Safety

Cochran is constantly dedicated to providing a safer workplace for all employees. Safety is paramount, and we take every step—from employee training to thorough on-site processes—to ensure the safe completion of every project.

Affiliations

We have close ties with the safety community, serving as leaders on and off the job site. We are members of the Evergreen Safety Council, sponsor the Puget Sound Area Construction Safety Summit, and serve on the NECA Puget Sound Chapter Safety Committee.

Certifications

Every team member is certified by leading trade organizations to execute projects with the highest level of consideration for safety. Superintendents and field leaders are OSHA-30 trained, and our OSHA-500-certified safety director gives personal orientations to all new hires. Staff are also trained in various specialties to recognize and resolve hazards, further preventing incidents. Additionally, our team is First Aid & CPR certified for emergency safety.

On-site precautions

We take thorough precautions on-site to keep everyone safe. We start daily with a stretch and flex program that minimizes musculoskeletal injuries and fosters a well-informed workforce. This is also when crews review pre-task plans, discuss upcoming work for the day, identify potential hazards, and remedy those hazards before they become problematic. Recognizing that some of the most common injuries are cuts and lacerations to the hands and fingers, we’ve implemented a 100% glove policy.

Pre-construction safety planning

During pre-construction planning, we work with all stakeholders to develop a comprehensive safety plan that’s unique to the specific hazards of the site and the project plan, resulting in recommendations on how to minimize risk. This plan then translates into actionable daily pre-task plans that ensure proper communication and documentation of identified risks.

Safety app

Through the use of our mobile app, the Safety Dashboard provides electronic documentation of our regularly required safety records. Daily pre-task plans, weekly site safety inspections, and weekly toolbox training sessions are documented in real time in the field.

Weekly safety reviews

Each project team conducts weekly safety meetings on site to keep staff updated on safety-related considerations as work progresses and to take feedback and input to help adapt project safety plans to the evolving conditions of the job. Back at headquarters, our senior management team also holds a weekly safety review to discuss all recordable incidents and develop new processes and information for bolstering safety practices across teams.

We often say that safety takes no holidays—not even a lunch break. Safety is paramount, and we take every step—from employee training to thorough on-site processes—to ensure the safe completion of every project.

Pre-construction

It takes a solid game-plan to build brilliance, and we have some of the best pre-construction minds in the trade. Our approach is one of solving problems: coordinating between construction trades and project stakeholders to develop an efficient, tailored approach and realistic cost estimates to make every project a success before it begins.

Navisworks integrates various 3D models for comprehensive project reviews, enhancing coordination, detecting clashes early, and ensuring seamless collaboration, which results in efficient, error-free project execution and superior outcomes for all stakeholders.

EVOLVE Electrical

EVOLVE Electrical extracts specifications from the BIM models for the prefabrication of components, which are built, assembled, inspected, and packaged in-house at our 25,000 square-foot prefabrication shop in Seattle. Connecting our modeling and prefab workflows with this integrated, purpose-built software improves accuracy and drives efficiency across critical project milestones.

OpenSpace 360

OpenSpace captures 360-degree photos of worksites and maps them to BIM models and other plans, providing an always-up-to-date visual record of the job. Work is documented as it’s completed, adding a reliable source of information for quality control and project management.

Dusty Robotics

We coordinate with trade partners to use Dusty Robotics for printing digital model wall layouts directly onto project floors, including markings for framing, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components. This automation saves time and reduces errors. Additionally, our team can print circuiting information, providing rapid access to details, making the benefits of a robotic total station clear.

Cochran’s BIM specialists are at the forefront of technological innovation in the construction industry, revolutionizing the way electrical systems are designed, fabricated, and installed. Our team harnesses the full potential of digital modeling to deliver precise, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions.

Design & prefabrication

Prefabrication is a critical confluence of our expertise across disciplines, where VDC, pre-construction, design, manufacturing, inventory management, and installation are optimized for the most efficient and precise results. Our approach reduces congestion on the job site, significantly cuts installation times, eliminates job site waste, reduces labor costs, increases safety, and saves time on the overall project schedule.

Design

Leveraging detailed modeling from our VDC team, we’re able to extract specifications for a broad range of key components so our design team can create CAD models, verify accuracy and fit within tolerances, and pass those models on for fabrication in our Seattle workshop.

Prefabrication shop

Prefabrication takes place in our 25,000-square-foot Seattle workshop, where we manufacture, assemble, and package walls, switches, disconnects, hangers and boxes, lighting branch wiring, and panel boards. This off-site approach ensures accuracy and fit, eliminates packaging waste, and allows for just-in-time delivery of parts to the worksite.

Materials procurement & inventory

We have a deep and diverse roster of suppliers offering us preferred pricing, and we strategically manage project inventory: using pre-construction planning to generate the inventory needed, keeping it held by suppliers or in our warehouses, and running just-in-time deliveries to operate more efficiently.

Preferred vendor pricing

As one of the largest consumers of electrical and other specialized equipment, we enjoy premier status and preferred pricing with many manufacturers. We save money while providing you with the finest new systems, engineered for energy efficiency and longevity.

Just-in-time delivery

Reducing the handling of inventory saves cost directly and saves the potential for damage. Whether a product is shipped directly to the project site, or is destined to our prefab shop for assembly, we implement just-in-time delivery to the project site. For drop shipments such as electrical switchgear, prior arrangements will be made to ensure product is either held at the factory for just-in-time shipping, or will be staged at our local distributor’s facility.
