Cochran’s Communications and Electrical Special Projects teams collaborated on the renovation of three historic buildings in Portland, OR. The White Stag building (1907), Skidmore Building (1889) and the Bickel Building (1883) were refurbished using LEED Gold standards to house departments from the University of Oregon including research facilities, and classrooms as well as retail space.

Great care was needed in the design and construction of the renovation in order to preserve the integrity of the original buildings, achieve a LEED gold rating, and meet the needs of the Owner and tenants.

There were tight construction schedules, an evolving project plan as the space was designed to meet the Tenants’ and Owner’s changing and expanding requirements, existing conditions that required problem solving and quick response, and infinite coordination issues between trades.

The combination of Cochran’s Electrical and Communications divisions working in tandem helped keep the project moving when it may have otherwise stalled due to trade coordination issues and the complicated nature of historic restoration work. Cochran was able to deliver quality results coming in on budget and on-time so that the University of Oregon could begin using their space as scheduled.
